Escape Games at the Museum

Immersive puzzle experiences that bring new visitors through your doors – for any institution and any budget.

The museum becomes the playing field

We design and produce immersive escape experiences right inside your exhibition spaces – your exhibits and content become part of the story.

Real exhibition, real content

Puzzles emerge from your objects and curatorial texts – museum-authentic rather than tacked on.

Permanent & special exhibitions

As a permanent add-on or a time-limited event – like “Nachtwache” at the LVR-LandesMuseum.

Runs during regular operation

During opening hours, alongside normal museum operation. Self-resetting stations keep staffing needs low – from simply handing out tablets to a fully hosted production.

Three packages for every budget

From an app tour to a custom room – with in-house contribution from your museum or as a full service delivered entirely by TIMEBREAK.

Reach new audiences

An escape game brings people into the museum who otherwise wouldn't come (or come back) – and turns regulars into repeat visitors.

Escape fans

An active community that deliberately seeks out new rooms – and rediscovers the museum as a place to play.

Families

From grandparents to grandchildren: playable across generations from age 6 – a shared experience for young and old.

Teens & young adults

An audience museums are keen to reach: those who find museums “boring” come for puzzles, time pressure and the team experience – and learn along the way.

School classes

An out-of-school learning venue: applying knowledge rather than reciting it – bookable for whole classes.

More than a visitor magnet

A marketing tool

Innovation makes headlines: “Nachtwache” earned the LVR-LandesMuseum prominent coverage in press, radio and television – visibility far beyond its regular audience.

Lasting knowledge transfer

Gamification instead of text panels: looking closely leads to discoveries – and it's fun. What you solve yourself, you remember.

Your content at the centre

Nothing bolted on: every puzzle is based on your collection and your curatorial messages. The game leads visitors towards the exhibits – not away from them.

Predictable operation

Fixed time slots, predictable revenue, low staffing needs. On request we also provide time-slot booking and staff training – your team maintains the content itself via the web interface.

The story

The night watch has called in sick – visitor groups take over the shift. With a UV flashlight, a clipboard and the purpose-built night-watch app they puzzle their way through 8 eras from the Stone Age to the present: directing light, securing traces, tracking down missing exhibits – until the culprit is unmasked. Fully integrated into the existing exhibition – during ongoing daytime operation.

Technology you won't find anywhere else

Hardware and software are 100% developed in-house by TIMEBREAK – designed to work together and built for everyday museum operation.

Smart flashlight

Switches automatically between white light, dimmed and UV during play – zone-based control via Bluetooth beacons. Can also be integrated into other wearables.

Beacon room detection

When a group enters an area, the tablet detects it automatically – and starts puzzles, audio, lighting and sound effects (beacons, MQTT, webhooks).

Visitor app (iOS & Android)

On dedicated tablets or as a BYOD solution with your branding. Timer, audio, video, staggered hints, offline-capable – game briefing can be delivered by video.

Web interface & live statistics

Your team edits texts, timings, codes and media directly in the browser – no app update needed. Analyse sessions and station times live.

Inside the backend: LVR Nachtwache App Control

This is the web interface the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn uses to run "Nachtwache" on its own – screenshots from the live system.

QR code management: codes for exhibits, checkpoints and passcodes – with status, scan limit and cooldown, maintained directly in the browser and exportable as PDF.
Live statistics: sessions, completion rate, play times and utilisation per day – filterable by period and device, exportable as CSV or full package.

„With “Nachtwache” we reach an audience as diverse as society itself. Families, teenagers, puzzle fans. The game combines the joy of discovery and play with the content of our collection, and it drew a great many people into our galleries even after the game. We had an incredible number of visitors who were here for the first time and want to come back – and an outstanding media response!“
